Six new polio cases confirmed in Pakistan

KARACHI: Six new polio cases, pertaining to the year 2014, have been confirmed and total polio cases in Pakistan reached 303 in 2014, a health official confirmed on Tuesday.

Two new polio cases were confirmed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two from Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA)/ and one each from Sindh and Punjab province.

In Pakistan, 178 polio cases were reported from Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA), 23 in Baluchistan, 68 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 30 in Sindh and four in Punjab. Total number of polio cases has reached 303 mark in 2014 thorough the country.

Officials of health department said 10-month old Abdul Aleem son of Abdul Haq from Noushero Feroz district, was the latest victim polio in Sindh province and number total polio cases reached 30 in the province in 2014.

Some suspected cases whose samples were collected last year are still pending confirmation in laboratory and in case of positive reports, these cases would be added to the tally of 2014, said the official.
