Spade work on Orange Line begins

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Transport Mumtaz Jakhrani on Wednesday inaugurated the first phase of Orange Line, relocation of utility lines and said work on 4.7 km Bus Rapid Transit system (BRTs) Orange Line has started and it would be completed by the end of next year.

Addressing a press briefing at Jinnah University for Women, he said: “There are four BRTs lines in the pipeline, which would have an integrated system, which has never been witnessed by Pakistan ever.”

He said Orange Line would start from Nazimabad, Board Office Chowrangi and run to Orangi Town, TMA office.

Jakhrani said federal government funded Green Line, 17 km, would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif next month and the gift of both the BRTs lines would be presented to Karachiites by end 2016.

He further said: “Utility relocation work on Orange Line has been started. However, Sindh government is managing to implemented the project from its own resources.”

Secretary Transport Taha Farooqui and Project Director BRTs Fazal Karim Khatri were also present.
