Karachi: Hosts Beaconhouse Southern Region will face Beaconhouse Central Region in the final of Inter-Region Cricket Tournament for O’ Level Boys here at Moin Khan Academy today (Wednesday).
Apart from Karachi’s team, teams from Islamabad and Lahore also came to Karachi to play in the two-day tri-series. This is the third time that the Southern Region has received the honor of hosting this annual event.
On the opening day on Tuesday, two matches were played on the basis of which Beaconhouse Southern Region and Beaconhouse Central Region qualified for the final.
The first match was played between Beaconhouse Northern Region &Beaconhouse Southern Region. The Northern Region batted first and put on board 123-10 in 19.2 overs. Ali Almas top scored for the side with 32 runs. Southern Region’s Muaz bin Salman bowled lethally and took three wickets and gave away only 14 runs in 4 overs. Hassan Khan also bowled well and captured two wickets.
In response, Southern Region easily achieved the target in 18.5 overs with five wickets in hand. Skipper Hassan Khan batted impressively and scored 46 runs for the side.
The second match was played between Beaconhouse Northern Region and Beaconhouse Central Region, which the later won narrowly by nine runs.
Central Region batted first in the match and scored 121-10 in 20 overs with Furqan Afzal playing a brilliant 53-run knock off 34 balls. Salar Rizwan of Northern Region displayed lethal bowling show and hauled six wickets, which also included a hat-trick.
Salar also batted well for the side scoring 39 runs but his efforts went in vain as his team fell short of nine runs losing all of their wickets. Hasan Sardar captured three wickets for the winning team.
Earlier on the Tuesday, the tournament saw a colorful opening ceremony with former Olympian Samiullah declaring the tournament, with the theme Cricket – bringing people together, open.
The Regional Director for the Southern Region, Yasmeen Aqeel spoke on the importance of having such tournaments where children not only get to learn more about the game but also make lifelong friendships. Ian Darlington, Director Sports & Physical Education Beaconhouse was also present at the occasion.
