Sports Festival: New talent encouraged to participate

KARACHI: Advisor to Administrator Karachi, Brigadier (r) A.S Nasir, on Wednesday said that 678 school students would participate in inter-district girls’ sports festival and the renowned national players had been contacted to appear as chief guests in festival for the encouragement of participants.

This was stated by him in a meeting at civic center committee room regarding the festival.

Representative and officials of separate organizations comprising director school (female) Sumbul Qureshi, director schools Jameel Farooqi, director culture sports and recreation Afaq Durrani, president e-commerce gateway Pakistan Dr. Khursheed Nizam, and sports incharges of separate schools were also present.

Nasir stressed that sports among students was essential for physical development beside academics and said that public awareness in this regard was needed, adding that students in Pakistan have keen interest in sport which accelerating the sports activities in the country and urged opportunities to them be provided to bring the new talent out.

While quoting implementation upon directives of administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqi, he said that the festival with entirely new ideas would be held from October 16 to November 19 and indoor games comprising judo karate, table tennis, badminton, swimming, athletics races including 100,200,400,800 and 1500 meters, high jump, hoop jump, hoop step, and throw ball had been included to ensure success of the festival. Moreover, cricket, football, hockey, tennis, and netball were included, he added.

It was decided during meeting that banners relating the festival were fixed in all pedestrian bridges of the city, free entry passes to families and students would be issued in schools, the spot of festival would be decorated with national and other colorful flags, music concerts facility along fireworks would be organized, and the prize holders would be awarded with certificates and medals.
