Stolen chemical drums recovered from Pak Secretariat mosqueMarch 27, 2014
KARACHI: Police on Thursday recovered six drums filled with chemical material from a mosque in Pakistan Secretariat, within the limits of Preedy police station. According to sources, the containers were dumped by some accused at Allah Wali Mosque in Pakistan Secretariat.
They said that the containers were stolen from a factory in Manghopir, after overpowering its guard three days back. On getting a tip-off that the stolen material was dumped in the mosque, the police raided the mosque and recovered the material.
The accused involved in the criminal activity managed to escape from the area, however, the police arrested his brother and a mosque administrator from the area.
Meanwhile, when contacted SHO Preedy police station, Mohammad Ayub, confirmed the police raid but declined reports of arrest made by police in the case.
To a query that whether an FIR was registered against culprits over recovery of the drums from the mosque, he said that the incident was first reported in Manghopir and they had only recovered the material, therefore they could not register the FIR.
He said that the owner of the material was also reluctant to register FIR against the culprits.
It is pertinent to mention here that offices of important government officials, judges and security agencies are present in the Pakistan Secretariat while the MPA Hostel also is near the secretariat.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a security official at Pakistan Secretariat told PPI that the security at the secretariat could not be beefed up due to presence of an encroached colony behind it. He said that the accused involved in the activity was not of a good character and was earlier arrested for stealing a generator from the secretariat.
