Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 51% Pakistanis believe that more provinces should be created in Pakistan; 48% disagree.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked, “Some people think that more provinces should be created in Pakistan.

For example, three provinces should be created from the current Punjab, two provinces from the current Sindh, and two provinces each from the current KPK and Balochistan as well. They believe that it will be easier for people to get their work done.

What is your opinion?” In response to this question, 51% respondents said that more provinces should be created, while 48% respondents said that more provinces should not be created and 1% did not respond.

This question has also been asked during previous years. Over the past five years, there has been an increase in the number of respondents who believe more provinces should be created in Pakistan. In 2010, a majority 67% respondents said that more provinces should not be created.

In 2012, the percentage of respondents who believed that more provinces should not be created had fallen to 48%, and remained so till 2015. In 2010, 32% respondents said that more provinces should be created. This percentage increased to 49% in 2012, and then 51% in 2015.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1827 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during April 27- May 04, 2015. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
