KARACHI: The recent six fatal attacks on traffic policemen is an attempt of lawbreakers to affect the Karachi Operation against criminals which is going in the right direction, said DIG Traffic Karachi Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh on Thursday.

No panic is there among the Karachi traffic police and the cops are doing their jobs with same zeal and zest, he added.

Dr Amir acknowledged that they are facing challenging time but they will fight the culprits at all costs who were behind the killing of traffic police in the city.

He said that rumors were spread that some of traffic police submitted their applications sought for long leave and trying to get them transferred due to unfavourable situation created for them in Karachi but it was totally misguided information that was published and transmitted in national media last day.

Talking to reporter, he said Karachi Operation has changed the mindset of criminals and had ruined their criminal activities in the city so now they found a soft target of attacking on traffic police whose work is to regulate the traffic only.

He said they have written an official letter to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to repair the faulty traffic signals and ensure installation of new traffic signals on unsafe spots so as constables could be withdrawn from these dangerous points on urgent basis.

DIG said investigation is under way that indicates that unknown gang was behind the attacks on traffic police so they will not be escaped from the law enforcers anyway.

He said he was assured by DG Rangers and IG Sindh with full cooperation to stop the attacks on traffic police in the metropolis.
