KARACHI: An Anti-Corruption Court on Monday granted interim bail to former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani in 11 cases pertaining to charges of multi-million scam in Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).
Gilani on Monday appeared before the federal anti-corruption court with his counsel who argued that his client is being politically victimized and all the cases registered against him were baseless.
After hearing the arguments the court granted interim bail to former Prime Minister against the surety bonds of Rs 100,000 for each case, however the court directed him to appear on the next hearing which is scheduled on 12th October.
On 27th August the same court had issued non bailable warrants for Gilani and his fellow Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim against charges of multi-million TDAP scam.
On 1st September Gilani reached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) which granted him seven-day protective bail in eight cases of graft and restrain police from arresting him. Just after two days IHC had also granted him a protective bail in the ninth case.
Senior PPP leaders Yousuf Raza Gilani and Makhdoom Amin Fahim were booked for their allegedly involvement in embezzling TDAP funds of millions of rupees during their tenure. Gilani appeared before the court; however, Fahim is yet to appear before the court as reportedly he is England for medical treatment.
