ISLAMABAD: Patron Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders Shahid Rasheed Butt on Thursday alleged that the rampant corruption in the Building Control Cell of the CDA has become one of the biggest hurdle in promotion of trade and industry.

The BCC of the CDA is involved in promoting encroachments, land mafia and Qabza groups which has made life difficult for masses as well as the business community, he said.

Talking to the business community, he said that BCC has terrorised the masses across the federal capital and it is promoting kachi abadis while supporting use of residences for commercial purposes.

He said that massive corruption has resulted in reduced interest of masses and investors in the CDA plots which is a reason behind failed auctions.

Those who invest in Islamabad have to pay heavy bribes to officials which has become a great issue which must be resolved by the city fathers, he said.

He said thousands of shopkeepers have encroached upon government land while Building Control Cell has acting in collusion. Similarly, many auto dealers have built long ramps obstructing traffic and pedestrians but it has never caught attention of authorities.

He said that recently an international chain opened a showroom at Super Market where a ramp was made for disabled which was demolished by Building Control Cell after they were refused any bribe.

Ramp fell under the jurisdiction of Roads Directorate of the CDA therefore Building Control Cell should not have acted illegally for the sake of gratification, he alleged. He asked the authorities to take note of the highhandedness of BCC otherwise traders would protest outside their office.
