Traffic jams on University Road irk citizens

Karachi: Frequent traffic jams on University Road have irked citizens, who waste their precious time and fuel specially during rush hours.

The section of the University Road from Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Gulshan Campus to Masjid Baitul Mukarram is in dilapidated conditions and big ditches and potholes on this section of the road cause traffic jams. Traffic run undisciplined here and motorists and bikers freely use roads and u-turns in wrong way even in the presence of traffic cops.

Another section of this road in front of Safari Park has also developed pot holes due to use of substandard material and it also results in slower flow of traffic. It is worth noting that the road that has developed cracks and potholes was constructed recently and it had developed potholes soon after its inauguration.

The worst section of the University Road is from the Staff Gate of Karachi University up to Safoora Goth and this section of the busy road is almost in non-motorable shape due to big ditches and potholes. Gutter water and potable water freely flow at many points of this road due to broken and leaked lines. Truckloads of garbage, filth and debris are thrown on the roadside in front of the Karachi University on the open land owned by Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and it give the vicinity of this premier university of Pakistan a sorry look; however, Gulshan Iqbal Town, Karachi University, KWSB and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) are least concerned to remove these hills of debris and filth and give the vicinity a respectable look. The road from Staff Gate of Karachi University up to Safoora Goth, especially its Mosamiyat Chowrangi needs urgent reconstruction to facilitate citizens.

The citizens have requested the Sindh governor, chief minister, chief secretary, minister local government, KMC and other concerned authorities to take notice of the poor condition of the University Road and take steps for its urgent reconstruction/ repair to end frequent traffic jams on this busy artery.
