Treason case: (Court directs Musharraf to appear on April 9)

ISLAMABAD: The Special Court hearing a high treason trial against former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf on Thursday expressed anger over the former dictator’s departure from the country while facing a treason charges.

During the proceeding, the court asked public prosecutor that why Musharraf’s name was removed from Exit Control List (ECL) and why he was allowed to leave for Dubai.

The court issued notice to Major Gen. (r) Rashid Qureshi, guarantor of former president, and directed authorities concerned to produce Musharraf on April 19, otherwise the bail plea of the accused would be cancelled. The special court also reprimanded the Home Secretary and asked if they were serious in proceedings of the case.

Justice Mazhar Alam asked the chief secretary “Why did the government allow Musharraf to leave Pakistan and were they unaware the court had summoned him?”

The secretary replied that it was personal responsibility of Musharraf to appear before the court for which he had personally assured. He was allowed to go abroad on humanitarian basis, the secretary told the court.
