’Tree plantation must to free Karachi of pollution’

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the tree plantation campaign should be continued for making Karachi free of pollution and heat, and make it more beautiful, but for this purpose, the campaign needs to be accelerated.

He said this while addressing the review meeting of tree plantation campaign in his office. National Forum for Environment & Health President Mohammad Naeem Qureshi, Coordinator Noman Khan and Commissioner Karachi’s Coordination Officer Afaq Hussain was present on the occasion.

Siddiqui said 300,000 trees would be planted in the second phase of campaign in the city that will remain continue for 14 days to overcome the target.

In meeting, Qureshi informed Commissioner Karachi that Idara Naya Nazimabad Karachi had provided 100,000 plants out of which 15,000 plants were distributed among NGOs, private organizations, police, and educational departments.

He said now the corporate sector, community groups, industries and trade associations are included in the campaigns. Siddiqui lauded the struggle of NFEH and campaign partners, and suggested that the department of forest should be included in the drive.

In the first phase of Sarsabz Karachi drive, Commissioner Karachi office, forest department and NFEH had planted 300,000 plants in the city last year.
