Two awarded life imprisonment in kidnapping case

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court-I (ATC-I) on Thursday sentenced two brothers to life imprisonment in a kidnapping for ransom case.

The accused, Danish and Daniyal, were found guilty of abducting Haris Khan and demanding Rs 1.5 million ransom for his safe release.

ATC-I judge pronounced the Judgment after recording evidence of witnesses and final arguments from both sides.

According to prosecution, Haris Khan was abducted by Danish and Daniyal on 23 September 2012 within the jurisdiction of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station. Kidnappers demanded Rs 1.5 million ransom and released Haris Khan after receiving Rs 500,000 ransom.

Adil Khan, the father of abductee, reported the matter to police after release of his son which followed the accused persons and arrested them on 7 November 2012.

The court remanded them back to prison to serve out the remainder of their sentences.

The case was registered under Section 365-A (kidnapping for extorting property) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Gulshan Iqbal police station.
