Two blasts in Karachi cause panic

KARACHI: A low-intensity bomb and a cracker exploded in the city on Wednesday, creating panic among citizens. No human casualty was reported.

According to police, the bomb exploded outside a cable operator office in Quaidabad area of the city in the early morning of Wednesday.

A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) official said that the explosion was carried out by Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that contained 500 grams of explosive material. The bomb was planted in a tin, said BDS official.

The blast was heard in far-flung areas of the city. The windows and shutter of the cable operator’s office were damaged. No human casualty occurred in the incident.

The residents said that two persons used to sit in the cable operator office, however, none of them was present at the time of the blast.

Separately, police said a cracker exploded outside the house of a trader Mazahir Hussain near Haidry Market in Nazimabad.

They said that unknown motorcyclists threw it on the trader house. No human loss was reported.
