Two extortionists get collective 20 years termJuly 13, 2015
KARACHI: An Anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday awarded a collective imprisonment of 20 years with a fine of Rs 200,000 each, to two extortionists, Saifullah and Amanullah.
ATC judge found both the suspects guilty of demanding Rs 2,000,000 from complainant as protection money and hurling threats of killing him in case of non-payment. The judge pronounced the verdict after recording the witnesses’ statements, evidences and hearing arguments from both sides.
According to the prosecution, Saifullah and Amanullah had demanded Rs 2,000,000 from complainant as a protection money from complainant but after some bargaining an amount of Rs50,000 was settled. Meanwhile the victim reported the matter to police which came in action and arrested the suspects red handed when they reached at told place to collect extortion amount. The police also seized illicit weapons, explosives material from their possession.
The ATC judge after scrutinizing the evidences, awarded both the suspects five, five years imprisonment in each charges which includes demanding extortion, carrying illicit weapons, carrying explosives material and creating terror. The court also imposed a fine of collective Rs 200,000 on each and they will have to undergo an additional two-year term if they fail to pay the fine.
