’Universities should be a role model for society: MAJU VC

KARACHI: President, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi Prof Dr Abdul Wahab said that universities should be a role model for the society because people have lost their faith in institutions and leaders.

At the time of any calamity our leaders instead of helping the people during their visit to affected areas prefer photo session for media. These views he expressed while addressing the faculty members of the University on the start of Fall 2015 semester from next Monday. Prof. Dr. Shafiqur Rehman, Associate Deans, Dr. Haji Khan Soomro and Afaq Ali Khan, Chairman, Business Administration, Farhan Bukhari and Chairman, Computer Science, Ahmer Umer were also present on this occasion.

Dr. Wahab said that special attention is given on strictly completion on education calendar well in time and to maintain discipline at any cost at MAJU with a view that our students on completion of their education may demonstrate excellence in any field while entering in their practical life.

He said: “The most important goal for Pakistan has to achieve development; the challenge of development is that we have been left behind. In terms of time, we are behind by about 200 years, if we compare Pakistan with the beginning of modern development in Britain.”

Dr. Wahab said that in terms of value of our output, our GDP is about 60 billion compared to $ 7000 billion of USA. The challenge Pakistan is facing is how to bridge this gap of time and output. He said for this purpose, the first task of our education system should be to develop a type of human resources which should have to strong will to achieve development goals with the given resources. He said that Pakistan is resource poor country and the environment is not favourable for development due to known reasons.
