Unseeded Talha clinches U-18 tennis title

Karachi: Karachi based unseeded Talha Zubair kept his giant-killing run intact and eventually won boys U18 title after beating favorite Syed Nofil Kaleem in the summit clash in Warid National Ranking Tennis Championship on Wednesday at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad.

Talha played impressively throughout the tournament and concluded his campaign only after putting his hand on the title. Talha proved too good for celebrated Nofil in the final and recorded a straight-set 6-2, 6-4 triumph.

Meanwhile, fourth seed Shahzad Khan stunned second seeded Yasir Khan in men’s singles semifinals and secured an unexpected place in the final. After a tough contest in the first set, Shahzad overcame Yasir 10-8 in tie-breaks. Shahzad again played some good game in the second set and defeated Yasir 6-4 to seal the victory.

Favorite Mohammad Abid confirmed his place in the summit clash of men’s singles event after dispatching Faizan Khurram by 6-4, 6-4 score.

Second seed Sahibzada Mohammad Ali of Karachi claimed the title of boys U14 event after he thrashed favorite Huzaifa Abdul Rehman Mangla in straight sets by a score of 6-3,6-1.
