Updated: Six killed, eight injured in Karachi violence

KARACHI: Six people were killed and eight others injured in separate violence incidents in the city on Saturday.

An accused, aged about 30, was killed in police encounter at Banaras Flyover, near Abdullah College. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for an autopsy.

In another incident, unknown person, aged about 30, was shot dead by unidentified armed men in Steel Town, Gulshan-e-Hadeed. The body was shifted to JPMC for medico-formalities.

One Mansoor, 42, son Muzamil, was killed by unidentified persons over the personal dispute near Water Pump. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal-formalities.

Police sources said unidentified accused reached at Tariq Hotel, shot dead an unknown person aged about 60 and escaped. The dead body shifted to the ASH for an autopsy. The motive behind the killing was not ascertained.

An unidentified person, aged about 25, was gunned down near Haji Zahoor Chowk, Faqeer Colony, Orangi Town. The body was shifted to ASH for an autopsy.

An immersed body of woman, aged about 35, was found from the sea near PNS building, Native Jetty. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-formalities.

An accused Saleem, 25, son of Salman, was shot injured in police encounter near Nursery, Shahrah-e-Faisal.

Police officer Ghulam Sarwar of PS Tipu Sultan informed that last night criminal Saleem was engaged in street crime at Sharah-e-Quaideen whne police rushed there and encounter was held. Later, the accused was arrested in injured condition. One TT pistol along with rounds and 4 purses were recovered from his possession.

Police sources said two persons namely Mujahid, 22 son of Khuda Bux & Tariq, 30 were shot and injured by indentified assailants over personal dispute near Manzil Pump at Saleh Mohammad Goth. Both injured were shifted to JPMC for treatment.

According to ASH sources, Yousuf Ali, 45 son of Ishaq, was brought injured from Bara Board, Pak Colony. He was wounded in firing of unidentified accused.

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Mukhtiar of PS Site area informed that Yousuf Ali was riding a cycle when a stray bullet hit his thigh.

Medical Legal Officer (MLO) Abbasi Shaheed hospital (ASH) reported that a person, Farhan, 40, son of Abdul Sattar was brought injured from Federal Urdu University, Gulshan-e-Iqbal by the firing of unidentified accused.

Station House Officer (SHO) Aziz Bhatti informed that above-named victim was in his car when somebody opened fire on him and fled. He was employee of an insurance company, he said.

An unidentified youth age about 25, was shot injured by unknown armed men near Nipa Bridge. He was shifted to ASH for treatment.

In a cracker attack, two persons were injured in Gulshn-e-Maymar.

According to police sources, two unidentified motorcyclists threw explosive material near a house in which two persons were injured who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment while the accused managed to flee.

Bandits robbed a bank branch in Saddar area of the city.

SHO Preedy P.S informed that six unidentified armed bandits reached on a car and entered the United Bank Limited (UBL) branch in Saddar near Saddar Mobile Market where they overpowered three security guards and looted cash about Rs2.5million and US $ 38000 and other foreign currency in Riyals and Pounds. Later, they managed to flee.

In an incident of firing at Sajan Goth, Baldia, one person named Shehzad, 25, son of Khalid was shot dead while his two companions Khair Mohammad, 35, son of Shah Jee and Zahid, 30, son of Qadir Bux were injured by unidentified assailants near Mustafa Masjid. The body and injured were shifted to CHK for medico-legal-formalities.

In recent development of Dr Shakeel Auj murder case, Karachi police issued the sketch of accused involved in murder with the help of eyewitnesses.

Separately, in a raid, police arrested accused involved in murder of five police officers. The accused Noona alias Naja Imtiaz belonged to a political party. Police recovered one hand grenade and other weapons from his possession.
