US: (US acknowledges Pakistan’s sacrifices in war on terror: Fatemi)July 21, 2015
ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi held a meeting with the United States National Security Advisor, Susan Rice in Washington on Wednesday.
According to a statement, they reviewed the current state of Pak-US bilateral relations and expressed their full satisfaction at the positive trajectory of the relationship.
Fatemi briefed Susan Rice on the important advances made by Pakistan in improving the state of its economy, internal security and various steps taken by the Government for socio-economic development in the country.
The US National Security Advisor acknowledged Pakistan’s immense sacrifices in the war against terrorism and appreciated its commitment to eliminate this menace. In this context, the National Security Advisor expressed the United States’ unremitting support for accelerated regional economic development through enhanced cooperation between the countries of South Asia.
Fatemi also met Chairman Senate Armed Services Committee Senator John McCain. The two sides discussed prevailing situation in the region and Pak-Afghan relations.
Tariq Fatemi apprised McCain about regional situation and the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation against terrorists in North Waziristan. John McCain appreciated Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terror, he reaffirmed to maintain peace and stability in the region. The US also reaffirmed its commitment to help Pakistan in overcoming energy crisis.
Acting United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Alfonso Lenhardt has renewed the US commitment to help Pakistan in overcoming the energy crisis. He expressed these views during a meeting with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi in Washington.
During the meeting, they reviewed the state of economic cooperation and USAID work and assistance projects in Pakistan. Alfonso Lenhardt said energy, economic growth, stabilization, education and health are the five priority areas of the USAID’s program in Pakistan.
He assured that U.S. would closely work with all stakeholders on projects which could lead to sustainable development in Pakistan. He appreciated the economic reforms undertaken by the present government. Tariq Fatemi expressed deep appreciation for the USAID’s contribution to socio economic development of Pakistan.
