KARACHI:,,, The International Finance Corporation – member of the World Bank Group – announced the winners of the ‘Transformational Business Awards 2014′ – a global competition.
Engro Foods was awarded top prize in the category of ‘Achievement in Inclusive Business Model’ amongst many other international contenders. Engro Foods was honored for its phenomenal growth and acknowledged for its impact in development of people at the Base of Pyramid (BOP), women empowerment activities, rural community development projects and effective use of technology.
Speaking at the occasion, Sarfaraz Ahmed Rehman, CEO Engro Foods, said: “This award is for the impact that Engro Foods continues to create on the communities it operates. Our emphasis on deploying inclusive business models with stringent focus on development and women empowerment has helped us win amongst hundreds of competitors worldwide. It’s a great international honor for Pakistan and its home grown institutions.”
In order to further its impact at the base of pyramid, Engro Foods has established milk procurement infrastructure in deep rural Pakistan and uses a management information system to deal with its procurement. The company has more than 1,800 locations to which farmers can walk in and bring their milk to sell to Engro. Through a milk collection network present right at farmers’ doorstep, on-farm training and technical guidance on farming and milk production, Engro is encouraging smallholder farmers to take up dairy farming on a commercial basis.
Earlier, in 2012, EFL received the G20 Challenge on Inclusive Business Innovation Award. In 2013, the computer world Honors Program, which recognizes visionary applications of information technology to promote positive social, economic and educational change, recognized EFL as a laureate for its EMAN- Engro Milk Automation Network.
