Ziauddin Hospital case: SHC adjourns of petition’s hearingOctober 26, 2015
KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the petition filed by Ziauddin Hospital’s management seeking a halt to alleged harassment from Rangers.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Additional Attorney General raised the question over the maintainability of this petition as according to him, another petition about the same matter is under hearing in the court.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that this petition was filed by the management of Ziauddin Hospital against the Rangers harassment. “This petition has nothing to do with the petition filed by Dr Asim’s wife who challenged her spouse’s detention under section 11EEEE of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
SHC bench, headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, adjourned the hearing till second week of November. Management of Ziauddin Hospital submitted in the petition that following the detention of Dr Asim, Rangers officials were continuously conducting raids at the hospital and harassing the staff.
According to the petition, several documents of the hospital had been taken by the paramilitary force including billing records of patients referred through Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s headquarter, Nine Zero.
The counsel argued the raids were unlawful while the Rangers personnel were liable to be prosecuted under the law. Management of the hospital prayed to the court to restrain Rangers from raiding the hospital anymore and return hospital’s documents.
The court was further requested to order registration of FIR against the personnel who conducted several raids at the hospital.
