14 jailed for profiteering; notices issued to 487

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Thursday that divisional and district administrations had launched a massive crackdown against profiteers, hoarders and those who do not display price lists at their shops in Karachi.

Chairing a meeting at his office, he said that 14 illegal profit making shopkeepers were sent to jail, 487 served with challans and RS 467,000 fine imposed on profiteers during 10 days of the crackdown.

He directed deputy commissioners East, West, Malir, Central and South to take strict actions against profiteers, hoarders, and those who do not display government price list at their shops. He ordered them not to come under any pressure and continue their campaign.

Siddiqui said that profiteers were committing legal and moral crimes. He asked plot owners to stop allowing use of their land for garbage dumping and burning, otherwise, they would be served notices and their land ownership cancelled. The commissioner said that the campaign would remain continue and every possible measures would be taken to provide relief to people.
