Kuwait calls for implementing UN recommendations to stop abuses against Rohingya

By Web Desk

New York (OIC-UNA) The State of Kuwait is following up with deep concern and distress on Myanmar’s Rohingya plight, where the Muslim community is being targeted with mounting violence, tantamount to genocides against humanity, KUNA reported.

This came in a statement of Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the UN’s Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs Committee, within the activities of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, currently being held in New York.

Kuwait affirms the need for implementing the recommendations of the United Nations to stop the grave violations of the Rohingya minority’s rights and reaching a comprehensive approach to build peace, development and provide humanitarian aid for those targeted with persecution, Hiam Khaled Al-Fassam, an economic researcher, said in the statement on Monday.

She noted that Kuwait participated in the UN-supported humanitarian conference on the Rohingya refugee crisis, held in Geneva on October 23, stressing the need for supporting the draft resolution presented to the committee by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the human rights abuses against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Ms. Al-Fassam said the State of Kuwait considers human rights among its priorities, as they are enshrined in the National Constitution, stipulating equality among citizens and safeguarding basic rights in tandem with the UN Charter and international conventions. She added that Kuwait had endorsed international conventions that call for eradicating all forms of indiscrimination, stopping torture, all kinds of inhuman treatment as well as rights of persons with special needs.
