Jordanian PM meets Japanese FM; hail strategic relations

By Web Desk

Amman Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki received Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and his accompanying delegation here on Tuesday.

During the meeting, they hailed the strategic relations between Jordan and Japan. The premier discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, including Jerusalem, which he said, is a political issue of concern to the entire Muslim world and that its future should be determined through final status negotiations.

He also underlined Jordan’s rejection of the United States’ decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, which he considered as null and void, and contrary to the international law and legitimacy, Petra reported.

Mulki spoke in this regard about Jordanian diplomatic efforts, led by King Abdullah II, to warn against the danger of changing the historical legal status quo in the city of Jerusalem.

He added that Jordan appreciates Japan’s important political role to enhance security and stability worldwide and find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue within the framework of the two-state solution.

The Japanese foreign minister commended the distinguished relations between Japan and Jordan, saying Jordan is a key partner of Japan, not only in economic affairs, but also in political issues related to the region, as the Kingdom is a key player in the Middle East.

He said Tokyo appreciated that Jordan shoulders the burden of hosting refugees, pointing to the aid provided by Japan for water projects in the northern governorates. He pointed out that his government is keen on stimulating the Japanese private sector to explore opportunities for investment in the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the Jordanian prime minister voiced appreciation for Japan’s technical assistance to the Kingdom to meet its humanitarian and economic needs.

The prime minister highlighted economic challenges and burdens facing Jordan due to the unstable situation in the region, in particular, the Syrian crisis and its repercussions on key sectors such as health, education, water, and infrastructure.

Mulki said the government is looking forward to Japan’s support through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to establish a training center in the field of technology to provide qualitative training for young job seekers, and to be managed by a big Japanese company in partnership with the private sector in Jordan.
