2nd National Conference on Research in Pharmacy Profession held

KARACHI: Dow College of Pharmacy (DCOP), Dow University of Health Sciences organized one day 2nd National Conference on “Research in Pharmacy Profession” and Scientific Research Poster Competition at Ojha Campus. This conference was organized with the liaison of academia and pharmaceutical industries.

The conference was held in the premises of DCOP in the lecture halls connected audio-visually. The conference endorsed almost 700-750 participants from all over Karachi and also outside Karachi. The conference was organized under the Supervision of Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim.

The conference provided robust platform of information to all the participants. The scientific sessions of the Conference were chaired by eminent figures of Pharmacy profession and the qualified speakers delivered lectures on research related Pharmacy topics.

In the Inaugural Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim, Principal, DCOP in his welcome address highlighted the significance and benefits that will be obtained from this conference. She appreciated the participants for their contribution in Poster Competition.

Prof. Dr. Masood Hameed Khan, VC, DUHS in his address emphasized on the need for research and development in the healthcare sector.

Chief Guest, Dr. Abdul Rashid, President Pharmacy Council, Pakistan and the guest of honour was Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, President and CEO, Brookes Pharmaceutical Labs appreciated the efforts of Dow College of Pharmacy for organizing a very important and informative Conference.

Later on, Dr. Abdul Rashid & Abdul Haseeb Khan inaugurated first students’ magazine DCOP, Dow Pharmazine. In the first scientific session Prof. Dr. Ghazala H. Rizwani, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy, Karachi University spoke on New dimensions towards green pharmacy research), Sultan Ghani, Consultant, Regulated Markets, Getz Pharma talk on Pharmaceutical product development in relation to ICH Q8, Q9 and Q10: regulatory and scientific perspective) and Dr. Mahjabeen, Assistant Prof. CTU, DUHS spoke on Elements of an effective grant writing for research in Pharmacy.

In the second Scientific session Prof. Dr. Raheela Najam, HOD, Pharmacology deptt. Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Karachi spoke on Innovations In pharmacological and clinical research and its implications in pharmacy practice and Dr. Harris Shoaib, Asst. Prof. Pharmaceutics deptt. Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Karachi spoke on Bioavailability, Bioequivalence and Biowaivers.

Later on, Scientific Research Poster Competition at under graduate level was held. The winners of the competition were Ms. Saima Mehmood ( DCOP/DUHS), Mr. Bilal Azmi (QEC/ DUHS) and Dr. Somia Gul of Jinnah University for Women. The winners of the competition were announced by the jury member Ms. Shabana Simjee, Assistant Prof. HEJ, Karachi University.

In the end, Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim gave her vote of thanks with the announcement of International conference in the future under the auspices of DCOP, DUHS. She also appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students of all the universities especially students of DCOP and also appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee DCOP, who work with full dedication and diligence to make this conference successful and memorable.
