3 echocardiography machines go out of order in CHK

Karachi: Three Echocardiography machines of Cardiology Department of Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) have been out of order for several weeks, but the hospital administration is not taking urgent step to get them repaired.

The heart patients visiting the CHK are compelled to pay heavy fees for their tests carried out by private facilities. A large number of patients who in past used to avail these facilities are facing problems due to the faulty machines.

Hospital sources said all out of order echocardiography machines were repairable, but due to apathy of hospital management these machines could not be repaired so far. No administrative officer of Cardiology Department was available for comment.

Medical Superintend CHK Prof Saeed Qureshi, when contacted, said two echocardiography machines have been non-functional and third is also some minor fault. He informed that only one echocardiography machine is functioning in hospital over which people facing hardship. He said these machines could not repair yet due to shortages of funds.

He said he has already received complaints of the faulty machines in Cardiology Department and administration has requested the health department to release funds for repairing of these machines. He said about 60 patients get tests every day from these machines. He said issue would be resolved within a month if the fund were released on time.
