Ratodero, Sindh: The teaching faculty of 40-years old Chandka Medical College, Larkana, is still incomplete as many posts of professors, associate professors, assistant professors, lecturers and senior registrars are lying vacant, due to which studies of thousands of medical students is suffering badly.

It is learnt that as many as 32 posts of Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers are vacant from BS-18 to 20, and 4 posts of senior lecturers and lecturer are vacant from BS-18 to 20.

Prof Zafar Pirzado and Prof Ghulam Qadir Kaheri of Biochemistry and Forensic Medicine, respectively, are working on contract basis in the college after their retirement. Many Departments are headed by diploma holders. There is no sanctioned post of professor, assistant professor & senior registrar of Plastic Surgery but only one associate professor is posted there.

Likewise Neuro-physician, Neurology, Psychiatry, Chest disease and community medicine departments are running without professors as these posts have yet to be sanctioned for this medical college established by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for the benefit of upper Sindh students some four decades back.

Out of 27 sanctioned posts of professors 24 are filled and 3 are vacant, out of 34 posts of associate professors 24 are filled and 10 are vacant, out of 53 sanctioned posts of assistant professors 40 are filled and 13 are vacant and out of 27 sanctioned posts of senior registrars 21 are filled and six are vacant.

The shortage of FCPS doctors has also severely affected the working of the college as most of the teachers here are diploma holders. Due this factor the worst affected are those doctors who have cleared their FCPS part-I and for completing second part they need the services of FCPS qualified doctors but they are not available in this teaching institute.

Dr. Rabail Memon posted on six months contract basis in Radiology Department of CMC told PPI that she has cleared FCPS part-I in Radiology but she is running from pillar to post and has travelled to many hospitals in Pakistan but so far she has failed to get admission so that she can complete her 2nd part and start delivering her expertise for the benefit of the poor & needy patients. She said that MRI/CT Scan has been installed in Chandka Medical College Hospital by the government but reports are not being issued to the patients due to non-availability of highly qualified FCPS doctor.

The Vice Chancellor of Benazir Bhutto Medical University of Larkana intended to start evening medical classes at the same college without prior permission of the PMDC for which entry test was also conducted and the candidates deposited huge amount for the test. It is matter of concern that when the morning shift teaching faculty is not still completed then how the evening shift was planned to be started in the college. Students have demanded of the Sindh Government authorities to fulfil the requirement of teaching faculty and also provide other facilities to their medical college.
