Anti-Toll Action Committee threaten shutter down strike on Zardari’s arrival

TANDOJAM: Anti-Toll Action Committee in association with business community, political parties and civil society people on Friday threatened to observe shutter down strike and stage a protest demonstration in Tando Jam against possible inaugural of Toll Gate by President Asif Ali Zardari near Hyderabad on Saturday.

The Anti-Toll Action Committee, which has been formed to launch protest drive against the forced tool tax collection from the people of Tando Jam and its adjoining area, met at an auditorium of IPM Hall of Agricultural Research Institute, with Dr Hafeezullah Babbar in the chair.

Addressing the meeting, Dr Hafeezullah Babbar, Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association General Secretary Saeed Hyder, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Tando Jam Sector Incharge Sher Ali Rajput, Pakistan Muslim LeagueFuncational leader Abdus Sattar, Jeay Sindh Tehreek leader Soriah Sindhi and Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party Tuluka Hyderabad President Gulzar Kaleri said that all social, political and business organizations have been struggling for the last six months against the forced collection of tool tax but the government had still not taken any notice in this regard.

They said that toll tax was being forcibly collected from people, including teachers, on Hyderabad Mirpurkhas Road, which is grave injustice.

Later, Babbar told journalists that the people of this region, including traders and businessmen, would observe shutterdown strike in Tando Jam besides holding a massive protest demonstration if President Zardari inaugurates Toll Gate during his visit to Hyderabad.

He said that shutter down strike would also be held on March 13. A big rally will be taken out from Sindh Agriculture University to local press club, where sitin will be staged.

He said the sit-ins will also be held on Hyderabad Mirpurkhas Road till the concession in tax is provided. They demanded of the government to provide concession in toll tax.
