Assembly members meet KWSB chief, seek end to water shortageJuly 22, 2013
KARACHI: During a meeting with Managing Director Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Misbahuddin Farid, Member of National Assembly Khuwaja Suhail Mansoor and Members of Provincial Assembly Abdul Haseeb Khan, Khuwaja Izharul Hassan and Waseem Qureshi said that water shortage in North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, North Karachi and adjoining areas must be resolved.
Elected representatives insisted that swift supply during summers must be ensured, especially during Ramazan. They also asked to repair all leakages causing sewerage and water overflow on the roads.
Deputy Managing Director KWSB, Chief Engineer Central, Chief Engineer Electrical and Mechanical, Executive Engineers and other concerned officers were also present on this occasion.
During the meeting elected representatives stressed that KWSB officers and staff must ensure that they fulfil their religious, moral and professional duties with honesty. They said that some KWSB officers were neglecting their duties and had not been acting on the directives issued during meetings or M.D KWSB’s visits to the area. They said that it is vital that the residents of these areas receive fair supply and problems in this regard were resolved.
Farid directed DMD TS to ensure that problems pointed out by elected representatives were resolved in a swift manner and all technical issues must be solved. Bulk water supply must be rescheduled.
Farid briefed elected representatives that Karachi was currently facing a shortage of 400 million gallons daily, and the water resources available were not enough for parallel supply to all areas. He said that we were ensuring fair provision of supply and with the start of second Ramzan Ashra, preparations for third must be completed.
Taking notice of negligence by KWSB officers, MD KWSB warned Chief Engineer Central that if he failed to improve performance, he would be facing a transfer. Speaking to DMD TS and Chief Engineers, he said that directives had already been issued that all engineers and officers must include field visits in their daily routine.
Coordinating with elected representatives and area residents, they must ensure that all public complaints were resolved. He directed them to inform elected representative of the area about their visits and all problems must be discussed with DMD TS or MD KWSB if needed, in order to ensure that complaint were resolved in a timely manner. He also directed DMD T&S to visit these areas personally and monitor the measures taken on daily basis to ensure that the situation has improved.
