Bad governance blamed for failing education sector in SindhSeptember 22, 2013
Naudero, Sindh: Educationalists and intellectuals held a ‘Save Education Seminar’ here on Sunday under the banner of Awami Jamhoori Party AJP.
Addressing the moot, the speakers held responsible corruption, bad governance, killing of merit, nepotism and posting of inefficient bureaucrats for falling standard of education in Sindh.
AJP President Karam Hussain Wassan said that some time ago UNICEF had declared that 4 million children of Sindh are away from education but its recent report says that 6.5 million children are not going schools in the province which really is a slap across the face of rulers who claim to have worked for the people of the province. He said that these illiterate children will damage the society in future.
He said that law & order in Karachi is worsening and due to bad law & order situation the people are suffering seriously.
He said that they have decided to go visit villages to apprise the people to get their children educated and also help them in monitoring the schools working their respective areas so that quality education is imparted to their children.
He said that the educations in Sindh is being systematically destroyed under a conspiracy which should be condemned at all levels.
Ibrar Qazi in his speech said that collectively we can save the education and added that we will not sit until the education in Sindh is saved.
Hussain Bux Narejo suggested that student wings should be banned by the respective political parties from all educational institutions of Sindh at least for two years to improve their working and added that students must also voluntarily give preference to their studies rather than politics of revenge which has ruined their career.
Hareef Chandio said that Rs119 billion are annually allocated for education but even then the standard of education is not improving which is astonishing. He further said that the closure of 350 mono-technical schools and 7000 schools is a question which should be replied by the rulers immediately.
He said that students of interior Sindh are denied admissions in Karachi & Hyderabad even in their second term.
