Bara militancy affected people express dissatisfaction over announced compensation packageSeptember 16, 2013
Peshawar: Expressing dissatisfaction over announcement of compensation package for rehabilitation of militancy affected families from Tehsil Bara Khyber Agency, the affected people demanded of the government to give them a comprehensive compensation package as announced earlier for militancy affected people of Malakand division.
Speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Bazaar Gul Afridi, President Khyber Union, a welfare organization of the agency, said that the government has recently announced a compensation package for internally uprooted people from the Bara Tehsil Khyber agency, which he termed as mocking with militancy and terrorism hit people of the agency.
“Tribesmen are the worst affected due to prolonged military operations in Khyber Agency, he said. He added the houses, shops and other properties have been completely damaged during the security forces action, in which inflicted huge financial losses to local and businessmen in the agency.
Flanked by the union general secretary, Murad Sahakhi, Mujeebur Rehman, Shah Nawaz, Aimal Khan, along with tribal elders, Mr Afridi informed that millions of people were internally displaced from the Tehsil Bara and Tirah valley of Khyber Agency.
He said that a large number of students had been deprived from the education facility during the excessive military operations in the agency. “The people of Bara are completely paralyzed due to weak financial conditions, while all source of income and business were also vanished, he maintained. Despite the huge financial losses, and damages, he said the announcement of Rs.25,000 per affected family as a joke with terrorism stricken people of Khyber Agency.
Mr Afridi criticised the government and authorities had received billions of rupees on name of militancy and terrorism affected people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but amount was not fairly and transparency utilized on them.
He demanded the government to extend Rs.10million as compensation per militancy affected family of Khyber Agency, while also announced package for those people who were killed in mortar shell and bombardment during the security forces operations in the agency.
“The government should vacate properties and lands owned by locals in Khyber Agency, while stoppage of swiftly cutting of trees at the mountainous hilly areas, and compensate for damages of forests, he demanded. He further asked the government to extend soft loans to traders and shopkeepers to restore their businesses, affected by the excessive military action in the agency.
