BHC reserves judgment on Pervez Musharraf’s bail petition

QUETTA: Balochistan High Court reserved judgment on bail application of former President Perez Musharraf here Monday.

A division bench comprising Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afgan heard bail petition filed by Pervez Musharraf after it was rejected by Anti Terrorism Court.

During hearing Justice Naeem Akhtar inquired investigation officer of Crimes Branch why police remand of Perez Musharraf was not sought and how the case investigation was completed in one day. He said providing security is responsibility of provincial government. Unless Perez Musharraf is shifted to Quetta how he can be granted bail.

Lawyer of Pervez Musharraf Muhammad Ilyas Siddiqi said that no concrete proofs against former president are available nor any charge has been proved against him. Unless there are proofs, we have applied for bail.

Learned court inquired from government lawyer Crimes branch was investigating the case why accused has been arrested and brought to Quetta, he said there are apprehensions of suicide attack on him. Interior Ministry has issued directives to all the provinces and FATA that in this view he should not be shifted from Islamabad. Court called documented proofs in this connection.

Division bench expressed anger over unsatisfactory investigation process and said this case is not of routine nature. How investigation w as completed in one day and why judicial remand was sought instead of police remand.

After listening to Ilyas Siddiqi and provincial government representative Court reserved judgment.
