Karachi: On the directions of Managing Director Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Misbahuddin Farid, Board Superintendent Engineer M Riaz and Executive Engineer Eijaz Ahmed raided a bogus mineral water factory at Plot No PPI Khuwaja Street, Block 1, next to Shell Petrol Pump in front of NED University.

This bogus mineral water factory was filling 50 litre and 19 litre bottles with tap water acquired from KWSB 48 inch main line passing near the plot.

According to the details, hundreds of bogus mineral water companies are selling tap water and boring water which is below health standards. Despite the fact that this matter has been brough to light by media, no action has been taken yet. One of such factories was operating in a room next to Shell Petrol Pump disguised as a part of the pump to avoid detection. During the raid more than 250 litres of bottles and 19 litre bottles were confiscated.

These bottles were pasted with different famous brand including Kaligan, Crystal Aqua, Ubaida, Oxygen Royal Blue, Fresh Up, Madiha Water, Blue Grace, Margala, AabeGizhr, Labbaik, Paradise and Indus. Sajid Ameen s/o Salahuddin was caught red handed during the raid who admitted o his crime in a written testimony.

There are hundreds of such factories operating in the city where water is filled in mineral water bottles without any treatment. It is often boring water and sometimes tap water as well filled without meeting the health laws or standards. These bottles are then sold in large scale projects and plazas at heavy commissions.

MD KWSB has stated that legal action would be taken against individual caught red handed during this hideous act to demotivate other such culprits. He asked citizens to inform KWSB at 99244595 about illegal bogus mineral water factories. Informants name would be kept secret and the bogus factories would be raided to ensure public health and safety. He hoped that citizens would cooperate with KWSB to keep them safe from these bogus and below health standard bogus mineral water.
