A three-day brainstorming session on comprehensive reform of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) kicked off in Jeddah on Tuesday, in the presence of permanent representatives of the member states and representatives of the OIC institutions.

In his opening statement, OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen said: Despite the pros and cons of this institution, like any other organization, I do not think that there is a disagreement on the need for reform – although there might be different points of view on its mechanism and scope.

The secretary general stated that the general secretariat is supportive of any attempt to undertake a comprehensive reform of the OIC in terms of its General Secretariat, overseas offices, organogram, missions, rules and regulations, as well as the Organization’s relation with all its organs.

Al-Othaimeen extended utmost gratitude and recognition to the government of Saudi Arabia, the host country, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, for the continued support for the OIC to facilitate its activity and for the hospitality and facilities offered to the delegations participating in OIC conferences and meetings.

The participants in the session are examining general remarks on the strategic priorities and challenges facing the OIC and will exchange their views on the review and development of the organizational chart and the review of OIC rules, regulations, principles and procedures.

The brainstorming session will also discuss the promotion of the efficiency of the Finance Control Organ (FCO), the improvement of the financial situation of the OIC General Secretariat and its subsidiary organs and the reinforcement of the OIC’s knowledge, identity, image, history, traditions and collective memory.
