Briefing on Peshawar CitySeptember 10, 2013
Peshawar: Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf Imran Khan asked the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to devise a master plan for the overall beautification of Peshawar. He was attending a briefing given to Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the beautification of Peshawar during his one day visit to Peshawar on Tuesday.
ACS Finance gave a briefing which was also attended by Provincial ministers, Chief Secretary and others. The mass transit, the rail, communication, sanitation, cleanliness would be the component sub plans of the overall master plan for the beautification of Peshawar.
Imran Khan said the provincial government need to invite the international and national experts to get their expertise for the master plan. He also asked the provincial government to constitute committees to entrust them different tasks as a part of the overall MP.
He would talk to the quarter concerned to clear Bala Hisar fort to open it for the tourists . He also wished to work on certain sites within Peshawar which can lead to mass scale tourism that will become perennial source of earning.
The briefing was told the provincial government was working on rebuilding rail communication system in Peshawar city and a case has been taken up with railway authority to take over the track within Peshawar and rebuild it on modern lines so that it can ease out the ever increasing traffic load on road communication network within Peshawar.
The chief minister Mr. Pervez Khattak asked the relevant quarter to expedite the widening up of road communication from Hayatabad to motorway. The government was working on removing all encroachments and other hurdles, hindering the smooth vehicular flow in the main city areas.
A safety plan was being evolved to secure the ring road and construct service road along with the ring road which would be part of the master plan. The briefing focused on month long sanitation plan, face lifting of GT Road, plantation on Jamrud road, outsourcing of cleanliness, waste collection in Peshawar.
Imran khan said that the world know about Peshawar as one of the ancient cities representing one of the ancient civilizations therefore we should work out to attract foreign tourists. He stressed to market the advantages of Peshawar so that the tourists can come and “Peshawar becomes a source of money earning city”.
He wished the provincial government must build a park in Peshawar and bring maximum efficiency in the services in all social sectors. The people expect a visible change from the PTI and the provincial govt must show this change through its efforts and implementation strategy.
He also advised the provincial administration for improving sanitation and water supply in Peshawar. Peshawar is fast becoming the most polluted city and exposed to polio therefore it needs concerted efforts to ensure damage control; he concluded.
