Business fraternity assures full support to police

Karachi: The business community has expressed their full support to Karachi Police in improving the law & order condition in the city. This was reaffirmed in a meeting held at Federation House with Ghulam Haider Jamali, Additional IG Sindh Police on 7th November 2013. The Acting President of FPCCI, Abdul Khaliq Khan, and Muhammad Shiraz, Chairman FPCCI Standing Committee on Liaison with Government Agencies, said that impartial operation of police against the criminals started since September 2013 had improved the law & order situation in Karachi to a certain extent but a lot needs to be done.

Sheikh Manzar Alam, Chairman FPCCI Standing Committee on Press & Media narrated a tragic incident which happened with him recently where some criminals fired on him in which by the Grace of GOD he survived. Muhammad Shiraz, Chairman FPCCI Standing Committee on Liaison with Government Agencies also expressed his concerns on the need to do some meaningful action on ground so that the lawlessness in the city can be controlled and incidents related to terrorism, extremism and kidnapping for ransom can be considerably reduced.

He further said that incidents were happening on very frequent basis due to which the overall economic stability of the country was being sacrificed due to the fact that Karachi was the backbone of the economy of Pakistan. Moreover, Chairman, further stressed on the abolition of Thana Culture and to improve the liaison between the business community and the Sindh Police with the evolution of Community Policing.

While speaking on the occasion, the Additional IG Sindh Police briefed the business community about the targeted operation being taken and also highlighted the problems being faced by the police department in this respect. He further said there was visible reduction in target killings, extortions, and kidnapping due to the efforts which the law enforcement agencies are taking.

He further expressed that he would make Sheikh Manzar Alam’s case as a test case and bring the criminals to the court of Law so that the right precedent is set. Additional IG Sindh further endorsed the points mentioned by Haji Shafiq Ur Rehman, regarding law and order problems in the city, educational system and vowed to eliminate it with mutual cooperation.

The Additional IG Sindh Police also pointed out that during the last 1 year more then 170 police personnel’s have sacrificed their lives for the protection of a common man with respect to the criminal activities which were taking place in the city.

He also highlighted the fact that inspite of lack of resources and technologies as available to developed countries due to strong economies, Karachi police was doing a fair job. However, he said that the business community should play its role while meeting with the head of state and important government personnel’s to equip the local police department with the modern facilities like DNA Laboratories, bomb disposal equipments, upgraded weapon systems etc.
