Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation KMC CBA Sajjan Union has demanded recovery of political parties’ advertisement tax for flags, banners and posters of political parties installed on KMC assets including electric polls, bridges, pedestrian bridges, road islands, corridors, streets, footpaths, parks, public places, open spaces, playgrounds and buildings.

Sajjan Union president Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah reminded that the Sindh High Court SHC has already given ruling for recovery of tax for using KMC assets for installing electioneering material of political parties such as hoardings, portraits, banners and other advertisement material.

He said the local tax department of the KMC using powers under SLGO 1979 should immediately start a drive for recovery of the political parties’ advertisement tax. He said bills of this tax should be sent to the political parties with one copy to the Election Commission of Pakistan and other copy to the Registrar Sindh High Court. He said the Election Commission should not release the result of political parties till they clear tax payment in this regard.

He said with this step on one hand the city would be purged from unnecessary political advertisement materials and on the other it would raise the financial resources of cash stripped KMC.
