Chairman Senate urges greater collaboration among Asian NationsDecember 9, 2013
Islamabad: Senate Chairman and Acting President of APA‚ Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari has urged greater collaboration among the Asian nations saying inclusive and sustainable growth depends on individual as well collective regional action.
He was speaking at the inaugural session of Sixth Plenary Session of Asian Parliamentary Assembly here Monday.
Nayyer Bokhari said 21st century is witnessing the rise of the Asian continent in international affairs and current trends envisage that by 2030 Asia’s economy will be larger than that of the United States and the European Union combined.
He said Pakistan is proactively pursuing a socio-economic uplift‚ sustainable development and regional cooperation and peace agenda. It is part of vision that envisages progress and prosperity of not only Pakistani people‚ but also the millions throughout Asia.
Chairman Organizing Committee of APA Mushahid Hussain Syed said this is the most representative Assembly of Asia with over two-hundred and twenty-five delegates from thirty Asian countries.
He said balance of economic and political power is shifting from West to East and it is high time that Asian nations define and solve their problems themselves without any external intervention and involvement.
First President of Asian Parliamentary Assembly Dr. Haddad Adel hoped that constructive decisions made at the session will facilitate the integration and cooperation in Asia.
He suggested that meeting apply its great capacity to play a pioneer role in preventing sectarian and ethnic violence and controlling foreign intervention to wage war and enmity in Asia.
On this occasion‚ Chairmanship of Asian Parliamentary Assembly was formally handed over to Pakistan from Syria.
The session also elected Indonesia as chairman of Standing Committee on Economic Affairs‚ Bahrain as chairman of Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs‚ Turkey as chairman of Committee on Political Affairs and Cambodia as chairman of Budgetary and Administrative Affairs. All these chairmen are also vice presidents of the Assembly.
