Chinese Prime Minister arrives, warm welcome accorded

ISLAMABAD: Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang arrived here on Wednesday on a two-day visit to Pakistan. His plane landed on Islamabad’s Noor Khan airbase where he was given warm welcome with 21-gun salute.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister, Mir Hazar Khan Khoso welcomed the distinguished guest at the airport. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), Gen. Khalid Shameem Wynne, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila were also present.

It is one of the rare occasions that both President and Prime Minister were present at the airbase to greet a visiting dignitary which speaks volume of the deep friendship Pakistan and China enjoy. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Armed Forces presented him guard of honour. It is the first visit of Li Keqiang to Pakistan after becoming the prime minister of China, providing him an opportunity to him to meet new Pakistani leadership and discuss ways to further strengthen deep rooted bilateral ties.
