CHK patients suffer due to faulty MRI, X-ray machinesSeptember 26, 2013
Karachi: The Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI machine of Civil Hospital Karachi CHK has been non-functional for last several months and hospital administration has failed to the machine repaired.
CHK sources said that a new MRI machine was brought about one year ago for the hospital and administration started running it on trial basis. They said however, the soon machine went out of order. They said supplier company under five year warranty is bound to repair the machine, but due to the apathy of CHK administration the machine lays out of order.
They said some nexus of black sheep of health department and private suppliers is involved in such cases in Karachi hospitals, as MRI and CT scan machine of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center JPMC hospital has also become non-functional under mysterious condition.
According to the sources majority of under treatment and OPD patients of different wards are compelled to pay heavy fees in account of their tests carried out by some private hospitals in the city.
The private hospitals normally charge Rs 5,000 to 20,000 for MRI test, putting unnecessary burden on the pockets poor people.
A large number of patients is being tested for MRI with complaints like backbone, brain and bones problems every day. In past they used to get this facility free of charge at the CHK.
Moreover, two X-ray machines of Radiology Department CHK are also not functioning for many days. The poor patients and attendants have demanded of the CHK administration and other highups for early repairing of machines.
Medical Superintendent MS of CHK Prof Dr M Saeed Quraishi when contacted said the CHK administration has been in contact with the supplier company about early repairing of MRI machine as per agreement. He hoped that machine would start operating within in a month.
He said two X-ray machines have been also gone non-functional due to some fault and soon one of them could be made functional, while other machine has developed some major fault which may not be repaired.
