CJ takes suo moto notice of Badami Bagh incident

Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has taken suo moto notice of Joseph Colony‚ Badami Bagh‚ Lahore incident and hearing will be held today Monday, says a press release.

The apex court has summoned Inspector General Punjab Police and Advocate General. The IGP Punjab and Advocate General have been directed by the Chief Justice to appear with the report pertaining to the incident.

It said in release that action was taken on an office note initiated by the Registrar, Supreme Court of Pakistan based on press clippings of different newspapers containing the details of the incident that over 178 houses were burnt in a mob attack on 9.3.2013 in a predominantly Christian Colony in the Badami Bagh area over an alleged blasphemy incident.
