CM for initiation of process for construction of high security prisonJuly 18, 2013
Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has directed the authorities of prisons department to initiate the process for the construction of a high security prison and a women prison in the province and installing water filtration plants in the all the prisons of the province.
He issued there directives while chairing a briefing of prison department at his office on Thursday in which inspector General Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Khalid Abbas briefed the Chief Minister about the existing conditions of prisons in the province, number of prisoners in the province, facilities being provided to the prisoners in the jails, formal and Informal education being imparted to them, Jail Menu, Jail reforms, financial matters, security of jail, development scheme of the department and other related matters.
It was told on the occasion that records and management system of all the jails in the province would be computerized during the current year while record and system of central jail Peshawar had already been computerized.
It was also informed that besides other developmental projects, construction of central jail Swat, District Jail Shangla, Women Jail Peshawar, District Jail Malakand, District Jail Charsadda and District Jail Nowshera were included in the annual development program of the department.
The IG prison told that the practice of corporal punishment in jails has completely been stopped whereas the prisoners were being provided quality and standard food in jails. He further told that, in order to ensure uninterrupted supply of power, generators had been provided to all the jails of the province.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to expedite the pace of work on the reconstruction of central jail Peshawar.
He expressed his satisfaction over the overall performance of the prisons department and expressed the hope that the department will perform much better in the future.
Besides, advisor to chief minister on prisons Mr. Malik Qasim, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Arbab Mohammad Shehzad, Additional Chief Secretary Finance, Sahibzada Saeed, Secretary Home Azam Khan, Secretary Planning & Development, Dr. Asad Ali, Secretary Health, Dr. Fakhr-e-Alam, Secretary Social Welfare, Humayun Khan and others attended the briefing.
Meanwhile chairing a meeting of police department the chief minister directed the concerned authorities to constitute a working group in the department consisting of experts of the field and retired bureaucrats to bring reforms in police and specially in Thana Culture and to give recommendations for necessary legislation to this effect.
Provincial Minister for Health and spokesman of the provincial government Mr. Shaukat Yousafzai, Inspector General Police, Mr. Ehsan Ghani, Secretary Home, Azam Khan, Secretary Law, Muhammad Arifeen and others attended the meeting.
