The meeting of Labour Expert Group, constituted under Ehsaas Program, was held in Islamabad on Thursday with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Sania Nishtar in the chair. The group was given a mandate to develop recommendations to bring informal workers in social safety nets. The meeting said that the registration of informal workers is the first step because registration will then open the door for their inclusion in labour safety nets like Employees’ OldAge Benefits Institution, Workers Welfare Fund and Employees Social Security Institution. Addressing the meeting Dr. Sania Nishtar constituted a writing committee to furnish a report on urgent basis so that practical steps can be taken to commence registration of informal workers.
