Community participation linked to upliftApril 22, 2013
Karachi: Community participation is a must for rapid socioeconomic uplift of society, said speakers of a moot at Karachi University here Monday.
The seminar was held in the Department of Political Science, on “Volunteerism and Community Development” with Muhammad Faiz Kidwai, Chairman Board of Trustees Rotary Humanitarian Trust as the chief guest.
Kidwai outlined the need for community participation in the present times where there was so much lacking in the society focusing on the youth. He projected the concept of ‘socially responsible architects of the society’.
He gave the example USA where 2.5 billion youth contribute for volunteerism which is worth 35 million dollars in monetary gains. Hence the need for socio-political development of the society with the reference of Pakistan is the need of the hour requiring training of the youth for the great cause ahead.
Kidwai shared his own experiences as youth working in different organizations considering the opportunities which came his way and how he utilized them and now he is benefiting from such contribution in the form of recognition from the society with ample opportunities coming his way to give an incentive to others as well as uphold the mangle of community development. The overall concept of development is to change challenges. It is easy in the modern global social net working systems to build ideal partnerships for challenges which are humanitarian as well as socio-political.
He added we must also focus on conflict resolution and peace building which is much needed on national, regional and global level. We must strive to attain social mobilization which will constitute a socio political frame work for Pakistan.
On the occasion chairman department of Political Science emphasized to spare time for the larger interest of the community. He further said that youth of Pakistan can bring a great change in the society through participation in the community work.
Prof. Dr. Tanveer Khalid was moderator of the seminar while Dr. Summer Sultana, Syed Shameel Ahmed Qadri, Rohi Ahmed were present.
