Concern shown over shifting of industries

KARACHI: Executive Director Pakistan Institute of Labour Education & Research PILER Karamat Ali on Wednesday said that chief of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz PMLN Mian Nawaz had announced Rs 0.3 million compensation for each family member affected by Baldia garment factory Fire but he has still not fulfilled this promise despite passage of several months.

“The international lawyers team will approach the court after general election 2013 against the institution which had okayed Ali Enterprises in labour laws,” he said.

He expressed these views while addressing a press conference organized by Sindh Hosiery & Garment Workers General Union in collaboration with PILER and Labour Education Foundation on World Labour Day at Karachi Press Club.

He showed concern over shifting of industry in other countries and said that it is injustice with workers which should be stopped as thousands of labourers have been deprived of job in few years. He called for proper health safety laws for workers at national and provincial level, while labourer should be trained about health safety at workplaces.

He urged the labourer organizations to work jointly for betterment of workers, while investors should give maxim facilities to their employees.
