Consensus needed for Karachi peace: Nawaz SharifSeptember 3, 2013
Karachi: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that a political consensus in necessary for Karachi peace, and his government respects the mandate of all parties and it is determined to end lawless in the city.
Addressing an ‘all parties’ conference’ here Tuesday at the Governor House, he said for Karachi peace the federal government would provide all-out assistance and resources to the provincial government of Sindh. He said all related agencies and departments should take joint efforts for giving Karachi a lasting peace.
The all parties’ conference, organized by Pakistan Muslim LeagueNawaz PMLN Sindh chapter was attended by the representatives of different political parties who stressed the need of stern action against those behind law and order problems in Karachi.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM leader Baber Ghouri said it is necessary to go for a targeted action in Karachi. He said the government should provide protection of life and property to Karachiites. He said sincere efforts are needed to solve the Karachi issue. He welcomed all political parties attending the moot, including those who could not get mandate in the city.
Pakistan Peoples’ Party PPP leader Taj Haider said all stakeholders should play their due role for Karachi peace. He demanded that Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah should be given free hand and the federal government should fully support him.
Awami National Party ANP leader Senator Shahi Syed said police have stopped to play a serious role in Karachi due to bureaucratic tussles. He said the police should be purged of black sheep and the moral of law enforcing agencies needed to be further boosted. He said his party would give full support to the prime minister Nawaz Sharif on the issue of Karachi.
JamaateIslami JI Karachi chapter amir Muhammad Hussain Mehnati said traders are shifting their businesses out of the city due to law and order situation. He said stern action should be taken against the criminal mafias operating in Karachi. He said all political parties should be taken on board while solving the issue of Karachi.
Jamiat Ulema Pakistan JUP leader Owais Noorani, Pakistan Muslim LeagueFunctional PMLF leader Imtiaz Shaikh, Sarwat Aijaz Qadir of Sunni Tehreek and Qari Usman of Jamait UlemaeIslamFazl JUIF also spoke and stressed the need to take on terrorists, extortionists and other criminals in Karachi to give peace to this largest city and business hub of Pakistan.
