Islamabad: Islamabad High Court has extended interim bail of the former military ruler General (R) Pervez Musharraf till 18th of this month in the judges’ detention case.

The court directed him to submit five hundred thousand rupees securities. Earlier former President Pervez Musharraf had appeared the Court amid tight security. Police and rangers were deployed at the premises of the Court. Snipers were posted on rooftops to guard the main approach as Musharraf arrived in a black jeep, accompanied by a bristling convoy of bodyguards.

He was wearing a bullet-proof jacket, an unprecedented precaution by a major figure making a public appearance in the capital. Musharraf spent barely 20 minutes inside the courtroom to listen to the judge grant him bail until April 18. The court has questioned the former president as to why he decided to come directly to the high court. “You should have contacted the session court and later appealed in the high court,” Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said.

The court also directed the former president to submit security bonds worth Rs500,000. Musharraf was asked to cooperate with the police and come in person in the next hearing. On the other hand lawyers held protest outside the high court’s premises against the former president.
