CPNE forms body to secure media communityMarch 21, 2013
KARACHI: Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors CPNE has constituted its Defense & security Committee to serve the security needs of the Media Community.
Senior journalist and defence analyst Ikram Sehgal has been appointed Chairman of the committee while Aamer Mehmood as Deputy Chairman. The other members of the committee are Jamil Athar Qazi Daily Jurrat, Rameeza Majeed Nizami Daily Nawa-e-Waqt, Umer Mujeeb Shami Daily Pakistan, Intiman Shahid Daily Khabrain, Aijazul Haque-Daily Express, Dr Jabbar Khattak Daily Awami Awaz, Hamid Hussain Abadi Daily AMN, Mehtab Khan Daily Ausaf, Zahid Malik Daily Pakistan Observer, Sardar Khan Niazi-Monthly, Naya Rukh, Syed Fasih Iqbal Daily Balochistan Times, Waseem Ahmad Daily Awam, Syed Ayaz Badshah Daily Mashriq and Abdul Wahid Yousfi Daily Aaj.
The committee will work to find out unanimous solutions to the security problems being faced by the media groups and their employees in the present law and order situation and in the context of providing security and peace of mind to both the media houses and their employees.
The committee will arrange security audit and risk assessment of media houses, safety training of media personnel and expansion of access to risk awareness and necessary training of the employees of media groups. It is mentioned that Special desk for media emergencies of a major Security Company in main Control Room in each city will be established.
All media personnel will have special number to call whenever required to ask for help in case of emergency. Further monitoring of movements of media group whenever required at than request at a designated control room. Whenever any media personnel have to move to any trouble area he or she will inform control room about his probable destination.
Defense and Security committee of CPNE shall constantly re-evaluate risks and know when to back down, training and awareness of post-emergency procedures and set up comprehensive medical insurance cover for in hospital cases.
