CS orders plan to tackle future floods, rains

KARACHI: Chief Secretary Sindh Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry on Thursday directed Provincial Disaster Management Authority PDMA to devise an effective strategy to tackle any future floods, rains and other natural disasters.

This he said while talking to National Disaster Management Authority NDMA Chairman Saeed Aleem at his office. Aleem stressed the need to stabilize disaster management programme. He assured full cooperation to PDMA.

NDMA chairman said that a solid strategy should be evolved to implement Iran’s offer to repair and rebuild flood affected buildings of schools and hospitals in Sindh.

Chief Secretary admired Aleem’s proposals and instructed PDMA officials to make relief plan on priority basis in which participation of donor countries and Non Governmental Organizations should be ensured.

He urged interconnection of PDMA with Services and General Administration/Coordination department and directed officials to appoint focal persons in all districts. The Chief Secretary ordered PDMA director general to appear before him twice a week. Chairman NDMA said that a delegation of experts from Geneva would visit Jacobabad soon so as to lessen the losses.

Secretary Implementation Naheed Shah Durrani, Secretary Rehabilitation Dr Sareesh Kumar, PMDA Director General Dr Nawaz Sheikh, NDMA senior officers Ghulam Mustafa Abro, Director Public Relations Nokhez Anwar Siddiqui were also present on the occasion.
