Dengue fever takes another life in city

Karachi: One more dengue viral fever patient died in hospital on Monday, increasing the disease death toll to 23 this year in Sindh province, said Dr M Shakeel Aamir Mullick Focal Person for Dengue Surveillance Cell Sindh.

Mullick said 30-year-old man, resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, was expired on 3rd of November and the case was reported to Dengue Surveillance Cell today. He said the man was admitted to the hospital on 1st November for treatment. He said a total of 21 dengue fever patients had died in Karachi, while two expired in Hyderabad this year so far.

He said nine more dengue viral fever cases were reported in Karachi, while five cases were also detected in Hyderabad. He informed that 83 dengue cases were reported late from health facilities, while 19 new cases were detected from 3rd to 4th November.

He said that a total of 3900 dengue fever cases had been reported in Sindh province since January 2013, out of which 3366 were detected in Karachi and 534 in rest of Sindh province. He said five OPD cases were also reported across the province.

He further informed that 500 cases were detected in Hyderabad, six each in Thatta and Jamshoro, four in Sukkur, three Shikarpur; two each in Kambar, Sanghar; Dadu, Larkana and Kashmore and one each in Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze, Badin, Mirpurkhas, and Umerkot since January 2013.
